AI to ASI - an unknowably unknown future: chapter 5

Chapter 5 : reverse engineering the brain and the massive language models of ChatGPT/Google Bard

One way to achieve ASI is to reverse engineer the brain. The human brain is the most complex object in the known universe, and it is responsible for all of our thoughts, feelings, and actions. If we can reverse engineer the brain, we can learn how to create AI systems that are as intelligent as humans.

There are a number of challenges that need to be overcome before we can reverse engineer the brain. One challenge is that the brain is very complex. It is made up of billions of neurons, and each neuron is connected to thousands of other neurons. This makes it difficult to understand how the brain works at a detailed level.

Another challenge is that the brain is constantly changing. As we learn and experience new things, our brains change. This makes it difficult to create a static model of the brain that will be accurate over time.

Despite the challenges, there is some progress being made in reverse engineering the brain. Scientists have developed new techniques for imaging the brain, and they are beginning to understand how different parts of the brain are involved in different tasks.

I had mentioned this before and at the risk of being redundant, I would mention again that a smart human with a laptop with access to internet search engines and now with the coming of age apps like ChatGPT/Google Bard already experiences higher intelligence than an un-aided human. Perhaps integration of humans with machines will give rise to ASI rather than a stand alone entity.

Off late, ChatGPT developed by open AI and Google's bard are the prime examples of large language model AI which is making all the news around the planet.

ChatGPT is a large language model (LLM) chatbot developed by OpenAI. It is a powerful tool that can be used for a variety of purposes, including generating text, translating languages, and writing different kinds of creative content.

ChatGPT is trained on a massive dataset of text and code. This allows it to generate text that is both coherent and informative. It can also translate languages with a high degree of accuracy. Additionally, ChatGPT can write different kinds of creative content, such as poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc.

ChatGPT is still under development, but it has already been used for a variety of purposes. For example, it has been used to generate realistic dialogue for chatbots, to translate languages for businesses, and to write creative content for marketing campaigns.

As ChatGPT continues to develop, it is likely to become even more powerful and versatile. It has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with computers and the way we create content.

Google bard also a LLM has few defining features which are slightly different form ChatGPT.

Unleashing the Power of AI Poetry:

Google Bard is designed to excel in the realm of poetry, capturing the essence of human expression and creating poetic compositions in various styles. By drawing on vast amounts of poetic data and literature, the model has been trained to generate rhyming, rhythmic, and aesthetically pleasing verse. It can produce sonnets, haikus, limericks, and more, opening up new possibilities for creative writing and artistic exploration.

Training and Fine-tuning the Model:

The development of Google Bard involved training the language model on a rich corpus of poems and literary works. Using unsupervised learning techniques, the model learns to predict the next word in a sentence based on the preceding words, gradually acquiring an understanding of poetic structure, language, and sentiment. Reinforcement learning is then applied to fine-tune the model's abilities, ensuring its poetic output becomes increasingly refined and captivating.

Fostering Creativity and Inspiration:

Google Bard serves as a powerful tool for poets, writers, and creative individuals seeking inspiration and new perspectives. Its ability to generate imaginative and evocative poetry can act as a catalyst for creative thinking, helping writers overcome creative blocks and explore new poetic realms. By providing fresh ideas and alternative phrasings, Google Bard enriches the creative process and expands the boundaries of poetic expression.

Bridging Tradition and Innovation:

While Google Bard harnesses the capabilities of AI, it also maintains a deep connection to the tradition and legacy of poetry. By analyzing vast amounts of poetic texts, the model learns the nuances of different poetic forms, styles, and structures. This enables it to generate poetry that adheres to traditional rules while infusing it with its own unique flair. Google Bard acts as a bridge between the rich heritage of human poetry and the innovation brought forth by AI technology.

Exploring New Avenues for Artistic Collaboration:

Google Bard opens doors for exciting possibilities of collaboration between humans and AI. Poets and artists can use the model as a source of inspiration, exploring the generated poetry and incorporating it into their own artistic endeavors. This collaborative approach between human creativity and AI-generated content sparks new dialogues and challenges traditional notions of authorship, inviting us to reconsider the boundaries of artistic collaboration.

I have interracted and used both, I am a bit tilted towards Google bard as it feels more human like.

Both the applications have made quite a buzz. Students shelling out home works and essays within minutes using these apps has been a common complain amongst professors and teachers. This has opened up discussion in various walks of life. In my mind we should continue to develop such technologies as long as we can control them. Otherwise the unknowably unknown future can pose a threat to human existence.
